Miren Muñoz - mediation

I work as a mediator, collaborating with different projects and organizations to design and implement proposals through art and creativity to help the public experience culture from a horizontal perspective, through proximity and through shared reflection. Given my connection with the performing arts, I research other ways of experiencing mediation through the body.

I am part of the mediation team at Sala de Arte Joven alongside my colleagues Sara de Fontecha and Álex Martínez. Together, we design and implement community and reflective experiences based on the artworks and the curatorial concept of the current exhibitions. Additionally, we design and conduct workshops for families at the gallery.
PG-DIYS is a project that uses contemporary dance as a vehicle to create space for participation and creative processes, aiming to empower communities situated at the margins due to sexual, racial, and gender diversity dissidence.
A project aimed at 10 adults with autism that took place at the ICO Museum in Madrid. It sought to reflect on access and participation in cultural life through the body and creativity. Lasting three months with a total of six sessions, the museum transformed into an enabler of new realities, where historically invisible bodies took center stage.
2018-2020 Project Möbius
Möbius was presented as a context to bring together women from the Prosperidad neighborhood at Teatro Pradillo and the Lapuertaroja space, with the hope of generating a space for reflection that investigates social pessimism versus the need for utopian spaces as a necessary means of refuge.
2022 Sorceresses and Go-Betweens: Dancing the Unnamed Limits
Sorceresses and Go-Betweens: Dancing the Unnamed Limits was a mediation proposal for the contemporary dance festival Cervandantes, where women from Alcalá de Henares were brought together to open a space where their bodies could express the challenges and experiences of ‘being a woman in different generations and stages of life,’ and how to bring these discourses into a stage language.
2023 Cultural Mediation Training by AMECUM for Macomad
Together with Jara Blanco, we conducted three days of training for various organizations belonging to the Alternative Theater Network, aiming to expand information about the power of mediation and its application in the performing arts field.
2024 Workshop 'Resonances: Thinking, Observing' for the Tutti Frutti Fest by PG-DIYS
After three years of writing the logbook for all PG-DIYS sessions, I conducted a creative workshop based on the written memories of the project to generate a performative act where the written memory could occupy space and become embodied. A way to honor the people who have made this project a continuous and communal learning experience.
2024 Workshop for the 38th Madrid Choreographic Competition
‘Body Through’ is a five-day workshop designed for the 38th Madrid Choreographic Competition by Paso a 2 at the Condeduque Cultural Center. Its goal was to deploy the resources and knowledge acquired during four years of work on the PG-DIYS project as a mediator in the performing arts field. This was made possible thanks to research previously presented as a master's thesis, where the tools and strategies used by the project were studied, identifying it as a mediation project.
2024 Coordination of the Mediation + Performing Arts Research Group ‘Body Molecule’ within AMECUM
Alongside my colleague Álex Martinez, as representatives of AMECUM, I coordinate the research group on mediation and performing arts. Our aim is to clarify the profession within the performing arts field and to create a space for feedback and development of tools applicable to our work environments.
2022-2024 Conversations within the Madrid Choreographic Competition
Since 2022, I have been designing a conversational experience where, after investigating the underlying creative ideas of the stage pieces presented in the competition, I facilitate an informal conversation. Through shared reflection, we arrive at the stage work enjoyed. It's about generating reflection and debate rather than explaining the work or exclusively listening to the creators.
2022 Audience Development for Sala Cuarta Pared
I worked for a full season at Sala Cuarta Pared in Madrid, developing and implementing strategies that facilitated closeness and accessibility of the space to the attending public. To this end, I developed proposals involving audience talks, strategies aiming for a better understanding of the theater's audience, and creative workshops to bring contemporary dance works closer to them.
